Biome

A biome is a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax. An example of a biome in Las Vegas is lake Las Vegas. Although Las Vegas is all desert, lake Las Vegas and Lake mead have different temperatures and different plant and animal life nearby.

Evidence of Different Alleles for the Same Trait

Being able to roll your tongue inward is a trait you get inherit from your parents. My sister and I have the same parents, but I cannot roll my tongue inwards when she can. This is evidence of different alleles for the same trait.

Enzyme

Another example of an enzyme is lipase. Lipase is an enzyme found in milk that degrade fats. During agitation, lipase makes contact with milk fats and degrades them. When it comes to pasteurization, lipase is turned off in order to increase shelf life of milk.

Enzyme

Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts in order to break down starches and carbohydrates and converts them to sugar molecules. On my sisters tongue the enzyme in our saliva, amylase, is the enzyme that helps break down carbohydrates and starches in what we eat.

Basidiomycete

A fungus that produces spores that are made outside a pedestal structure. These mushrooms I had for dinner is an example of a basidiomycete!

Autotroph

Autotrophs make their own food to get their own nutrients in order to grow and reproduce. An example is this small palm tree in my front yard. 

Asexual Reproduction

Asexual reproduction is defined as the reproduction without the fusion of gametes. An example is an onion. An onion is a bulb, a long root that grows under the soil. Once an onion grows, it drops seeds into the ground, creating more onions to grow. This term is called fragmentation, when one plant can break up into more than one plant, creating more.
